NEWBORNS TO 3 YEARS
Cradle Roll
The Cradle Roll is a ministry of Resurrection Lutheran Church to
children and their parents from the child’s birth to his/her third
birthday. Each child and his parents will receive a variety of materials
from the church at birth, baptism and birthdays. In addition, a newsletter
will be sent every few months with ideas and suggestions for helping
children grow in the Christian faith.
Child Care
Two members of the congregation staff our Nursery for children 3
and under during the 11:00 service. The Nursery room is available
for parents at other times. A speaker system allows parents to hear
the service while they are in the room.
3 YEARS to 5th GRADE
Sunday School
We use the Godly Play curriculum for our 3 year old to 5th grade children.
“Godly Play teaches children the art of using religious language -
parable, sacred story, silence and liturgical action - helping them
become more fully aware of the mystery of God’s presence in their lives.”
From time to time our children demonstrate what they have been learning
during the Children’s sermon time at the 11:00 service. We have dressed
as medieval academicians on Reformation Sunday complete with red Luther
hats and dramatized the call of Paul. On Christmas Eve and on Epiphany
Sundy we dramatized the Gospel as the Pastor read.
First Communion
Instruction in the sacrament is offered to children in 3rd grade and
above twice a year (October and during Lent).
Parents are asked to come to the first class in order to be informed
on the program of instruction, and to be better prepared to provide
family support for this special time in their child's life. The booklet
Come to God's Table provides the study materials. The study time on
Sundays and at home helps deepen the understanding and interest of the
children who are preparing for participation in Holy Communion.
Vacation Bible School
Resurrection offers a Vacation Bible School experience for one week each
summer to members and the community for children who are in Kindergarten
through the 5th grade. A Bible story with related games, crafts and music
makes for a fun filled time for children and volunteers alike.
MIDDLE SCHOOL
Confirmation
We have a three-year confirmation program for our 6th, 7th and 8th graders.
They meet during the Sunday School hour for instruction and at other times
during the month for service projects and social activities.
The curriculum we are using is “To Know, To Live, To Grow”.
Some of our service projects include serving at the Soup Kitchen in
downtown Atlanta, baking cookies for college students and military service
personnel. Social activities include Lock-Ins, Tree and Rock Climbing.
HIGH SCHOOL
Our High School students meet during the Sunday School hour to discuss
topics of current interest. Several times a month the youth meet for
fun and for service activities. Some of the fun events include a
Progressive Dinner, swim parties, rock climbing and a bonfire.
Service activities include helping at Angel House, Food Pantry and the
Soup Kitchen and helping to assemble Thanksgiving baskets.
